Business Owner's Message On Trump Tariffs: 'don't Forget' Us

(NewsNation) — Sarah Pitkin, owner of hardware stores in Virginia, joined "Morning in America with Hena Doba" to discuss the impact tariffs could have on her businesses and why she cannot always buy American-made products.
Despite some American businesses welcoming President Trump's tariffs on imported goods, Pitkin is less of a fan.
She has had to raise prices on products from China; such as steel, nuts and bolts, among others.
"We order our goods usually about four to six months ahead of time before we knew about tariffs. We do have a large stock of grills that we're going to have to figure out if we can sell for the price," Pitkin said.
"One of our major manufacturers is going to raise prices by about 20% within the next few months. So that means that we will have to raise prices as well," she added.
Based just outside of Washington D.C., Pitkin says her customers are on both sides of the political aisle and as much as she would love to buy all of her products from within America, she's unsure of the feasibility.
"When you see and read some of your plate boxes that say 'Made in America,' it'll say from globally sourced items.
"So we're a global economy, I don't know how we're going to pick up and [produce] more Made in America because of what is available and how we're so interconnected with everybody."
