Day Around The Bay: Waymo Service To Sfo Likely Coming Soon

  • Waymo has reached a deal with San Francisco and the Teamsters' union to begin mapping its routes to, and presumably from, San Francisco International Airport. It seems like this means we'll start seeing Waymos on 101 and perhaps 280, where they had not previously been operating but it's unclear when passenger service to SFO might begin. [Mission Local]
  • The SFMTA is exploring the possibility of putting in pickleball courts on the roofs of the often empty Fifth and Mission and Sutter-Stockton parking garages. The idea is being floated as revenue at city-owned garages around town is down 20%. [Chronicle]
  • Healthcare-focused Abridge AI Inc. is looking to hire 150 new employees, many of them in San Francisco, after getting a new infusion of cash. [SF Business Times]
  • A permit application is in for a 200-unit, eight-story apartment building to replace a three-story office building on Milvia Street in downtown Berkeley. [SF Business Times]

National:

  • Republicans in Congress are reportedly being warned off making too many public appearances in their home districts, given rising voter anger from all sides. Yes, even constituents in solidly red districts, particularly those whose livelihoods are being impacted by Trump and Musk's actions, are getting mad and asking a lot of questions. [New York Times]
  • Two people, including a midwife, have been arrested in Texas and accused of providing illegal abortions in the Houston area. [ABC News]
  • A federal judge in DC, US District Judge James Boasberg, had a tense hearing with a Department of Justice attorney today over deportation flights to Central America that he had ordered turned around, which did not. [CNN]
