KUCHING (Dec 23): Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) made new history when its Entrepreneurship Centre was selected as a strategic partner of the e-Entrepreneur Hub by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

This was announced during the e-Entrepreneur Hub plaque presentation by MDEC Digital Talent and Entrepreneurship Division director Nik Naharudin Mohd Nasir in conjunction with the #UNIMASpreneur 2024 Lagi Carnival closing ceremony in Kota Samarahan today.

“Unimas’ recognition as the e-Entrepreneur Hub aims to complement the MDEC e-Entrepreneur ecosystem in an effort to encourage the involvement of community entrepreneurs around Unimas to engage in digital entrepreneurship,” said the university in a statement.

It added apart from Unimas’ commitment, its strategic location was also a factor in being chosen to be one of the hub networks and through this recognition, all information on training and programmes organised by MDEC will be channelled to Unimas as a hub network.

In this regard, students and local entrepreneurs can obtain information, advisory services and guidance related to digital entrepreneurship at the university.

At the same event, Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB) also announced a strategic collaboration with the Unimas Entrepreneurship Centre to implement the Uni-Challenge 2024 Programme — an initiative to foster entrepreneurial talent in Social Entrepreneurship Startup at the early stage, especially among university students.

According to Unimas, this programme provides an opportunity for students to generate innovative business ideas in social entrepreneurship while receiving direct guidance from industry experts.

Five groups of students competed for a total prize worth RM7,000.

Through this collaboration, Unimas will play an important role in

driving the progress of social entrepreneurship in Sarawak, in line with the country’s economic agenda.

“This effort hopes to produce more successful entrepreneurs who are able to generate positive impact on society and the economy from among university students,” said Unimas.
