Five million people in China have applauded the heart-warming moment when a kindergarten security guard danced a waltz with a girl who was upset because her mother was late picking her up.

Liu Jie, a guard at a kindergarten in eastern China’s Shandong province, danced with the little girl nicknamed Little Peach on March 7, to comfort both her and her mother, who was late because of work.

“I want you to go home happily, and your mother will not feel guilty anymore because you are happy,” Liu said in a video post on social media.

The 52-year-old has been working in the small community kindergarten in his hometown for eight years.

His brilliant dance moves wowed many people online, and Liu revealed that he used to be a professional dancer.

Liu studied classical and folk dance in college, and became part of a song and dance ensemble in 1993.

He then joined the nationwide craze of starting ones own business during the country’s transformation towards a market-oriented economy, resigned and became a businessman in southern China’s Guangdong province in 2002.

Liu did not specify what business he was involved in, but said he was free from financial pressure.

To look after his parents, who are both 93 years old this year, Liu returned to Shandong and left his business with his wife and kids.

Liu began working at the kindergarten in 2017. He goes to Guangzhou, where his family is based, every weekend.

He said he took the security guard job because he was a workaholic, and also he loved kids.

Liu said he remembered the name of every child and the parents who come to pick them up.

He was responsible for greeting and seeing off kids in front of the kindergarten every day. He also helped with the teacher at dancing classes.

Liu said the job warms his heart.

A child once sneaked into his office, telling him that she would always be there for him if he felt lonely. Some children always offer him snacks.

“I love kids for a simple reason: If you treat them sincerely, they will treat you with the same sincerity,” Liu said.

“Check out his tall and straight build, you know that he is not an ordinary person,” one online observer said of the dancing video.

“An elegant man and a giggling baby. What a lovely picture,” said another.

“An interesting soul shines anywhere no matter what job they do,” a third person said.
