Seeking Advice: Transitioning Careers, Exploring Business Ideas, And Generating Income While Job Hunting
Hello
I’m a 31 yo immigrant with $10,000 saved and a full open work permit. I just finished a Computer Science program but prefer roles aligned with my experience as a Business Analyst or Account Manager. This week is my last as a bartender, as I’m quitting to focus full-time on finding a professional job to secure my permanent residency.
I’m also exploring business ideas:
- Supplying fresh produce (e.g., lychees) from Mexico to a distributor interested in buying from me.
- Designing and selling hoodies (a passion project I want to try despite the competitive market).
My concern is sustaining myself without depleting my savings. My monthly expenses are $1,200, and I’d like to invest $1,000–$2,000 to generate some income to cover bills. I’ve started using Interactive Brokers with a paper account, but I’m struggling to understand trading.
Can you recommend courses or strategies to learn trading, or other short-term investment ideas to generate steady income?
Thanks in advance!
