Souley Vegan Returns To The Town

Souley Vegan
Chef Tamearra Dyson is bringing back her vegan restaurant back to Oakland’s Jack London Square
And just like that, Souley Vegan (and chef Tamearra Dyson) returns to Oakland. Just a little over a year since the original restaurant closed in Oakland after 14 years in business, Dyson is bringing the vegan soul food mothership back to the Town, opening at the former home of the Port at 101 Broadway in Oakland. Tablehopper caught the news and reports that Dyson is using the location as an events space for now — Souley Vegan’s Instagram shows off the beautifully decorated venue for a Valentine’s Day event — with plans to open fully as a restaurant the first week of April.
In the meantime, however, to prepare the space in Oakland, Dyson announced the closure of her Martinez location inside the Market & Main food hall on January 1. The new space at Jack London Square will give Dyson the space to serve customers her special brand of vegan soul food, and already she plans for dinners Thursday through the weekend, plus R&B brunch. The two kitchens will allow her to “support up-and-coming chefs, rent the space to caterers, hold pop-ups, and use the additional kitchen for her upcoming meal prep line,” according to Tablehopper.
It’s raining bagels, hallelujah
Following news of Schlock’s Bagel and Lox opening an upcoming location and Bone Bagels dropping in Noe Valley comes news of yet another bagel contender in the city. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Bageletto opened on Tuesday, February 18, at 76 14th Street in the Mission. New York-born Rich D’Aloia is the man behind the operation, pumping out 12 flavors of bagels throughout the day with some specials sprinkled in, like an upcoming Calabrian chile version. D’Aloia’s bagels weigh in at a hefty 185 grams (compared to the typical 120 to 130 grams, the Chron states), perfect for a roster of bagel sandwiches for customers. In addition, Bageletto will also serve sandwiches on Italian rolls, along with a bodega-ready chopped cheese.
Fisch & Flore goes up for sale
It seems the Castro’s Fisch & Flore is up for sale, Hoodline reports. Opening in the beloved Cafe Flore space at 2298 Market Street in April 2024, owner Serhat Zorlu confirmed to the outlet that the restaurant is for sale on the Compass real estate website for $795,000 and that he’s looking for either a buyer or an investor in the restaurant. The attached coffee shop on Noe Street appears to be “abandoned,” per the report, although Zorlu says the restaurant will remain open.
Coffee pop-up alert
Coffee fiends will want to head to Scorpio Coffee in Sacramento on Tuesday, February 25, for a special event. Per Instagram, Paolo Maliksi, the co-founder and roaster at New York’s Regalia Coffee, will be at Scorpio’s shop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to take care of your caffeine needs.
