These Bay Area Cafes Have You Set For Ramadan This Year

Delah Coffee in San Francisco and Oakland is just one of the cafes ideal for breaking fast this Ramadan. | Patricia Chang
Throughout the San Francisco Bay Area coffee shops and pastry dealers keep those observing the holiday well-fed
Driving in the Bay Area at night during Ramadan, it’s not unusual to see cafes filled with people. Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of worship and fasting, is a time for individual spiritual commitment, but it’s also an opportunity to be in community. Ramadan runs from Friday, February 28 to Saturday, March 29 this year. Some businesses extend their hours of operation during Ramadan to accommodate those breaking their fast. It’s reassuring to know we can find warmth and energy in our local cafes. And I’ve heard more than once: you might run into a family member while grabbing a post-Iftar pick-me-up.
An invigorating new wave of Arab, South Asian, and Muslim-owned cafes are emerging across the Bay Area. At a community destination like Jaffa Coffee Roasters in Berkeley, co-owned by three Palestinian brothers, I feel comfortable skipping my usual coffee shop nickname. In addition to serving culturally-forward beverages, these cafes often collaborate with community groups and mosques to host events. Organizers, artists, and coffee lovers alike come together to uplift causes close to their hearts.

As an Indian American Muslim woman living in the South Bay, I’m especially excited to see new late-night, non-alcohol-focused third spaces. Friends gather over cardamom lattes to share nascent ideas and nurture creativity together.
Add these six cafes across the Bay Area to your list for delicious Yemeni, Palestinian, and Pakistani caffeinated fare.

If you open a Bay Area Muslim group chat, there’s a good possibility you’ll see, “Let’s go to Delah,” texted back and forth. Delah Coffee has become a popular neighborhood spot for late-night work sessions and catch-ups with friends. Delah first started in San Francisco in 2022, expanding to Downtown Oakland and Berkeley. When you step inside Delah, you feel at home with its warm decor and cozy seating. The strong, sweet, and spiced Yemeni Latte pairs well with its cream cheese honey Bee Bites. Or, get a slab of the rose milk cake, a balanced treat you’ll want to order again right away.
Delah Coffee’s Fourth Street San Francisco and Oakland locations will extend its hours to midnight for Ramadan. For regular hours of operation by location, check out Delah’s website.

What started as a family’s passion for coffee transformed into a beloved local business. Kenz Coffee Roasters began in 2018 as a hobby, micro-roasting and packaging beans for friends and family. Today, Kenz roasts beans from around the world and sells them through an online ordering system in Saratoga. In 2021, Kenz Coffee Bar at Bamrec opened in Los Gatos. Keep an eye out for its pistachio latte brewed with Kenz, ceremonial pistachio matcha, and rose chai, all favorite ingredients among community members. Kenz partners with local food vendors for nighttime Ramadan events, serving specialty beverages and meals.
Kenz Coffee Bar at Bamrec (445 Hershner Drive, Los Gatos) is open 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily.

It serves smooth coffee, adeni chai, and eye-catching cakes like the decadent knafeh cheesecake. Qamaria’s iced pistachio latte layers espresso, milk, and sweet, nutty pistachio for a refreshing treat. For savory cravings, try the crispy chicken fatayer. The cafe’s soft, archway-studded interior features a striking focal art of a Yemeni woman. With plenty of seating, it’s perfect for solo night owls or friends gathering for a pre-Taraweeh refuel.

South Bay coffee lovers have a new go-to spot for late nights. Sana’a Cafe opened in Downtown Mountain View in February 2025, following the success of its original San Francisco location and expanding across the Bay Area. The business’s signature Sana’a Latte is brewed with cardamom, cinnamon, and ginger. Order your coffee or chai in a pot, and it will be served in an ornate teapot with accompanying teacups. For those who enjoy desserts that aren’t too sweet, Sana’a’s pistachio cheesecake is rich and lightly drizzled with pistachio sauce. The Mountain View location shares space with Mediterranean Grill House, making it a great one-stop shop for Iftar this Ramadan.
Sana’a Cafe’s Mountain View location (650 Castro St, Suit 110) will extend its hours to 2 a.m. for Ramadan. For regular hours of operation by location, check out the Sana’a website.
