President-elect Donald Trump is pushing Vivek Ramaswamy to fill the empty Senate seat in Ohio if the governor offers it to him, a source familiar with the matter told Business Insider. The Washington Post first reported the news.
The seat belonged to Vice President-elect JD Vance, who resigned it on Friday as he prepares to begin his duties at the White House. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine will select someone to fill the seat for two years, before a special election in November of 2026. Gov. DeWine's office declined to comment for this article and said it has not commented on any nominees.
Ramaswamy is set to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency alongside Elon Musk. Should Ramaswamy be offered and accept the seat, it's unclear what would become of his responsibilities at DOGE.
Representatives for Trump did not immediately respond to BI's request for comment.
