Superheroes traditionally have a hard time dating. Even with a partner who is aware of your secret identity, finding time alone and uninterrupted is tricky. This is particularly true for the Bat Family, as the Valentine’s Day-themed DC’s Lex and the City #1 reveals the first rule of dating in Gotham City.
The rule is revealed in “To Live and Date in Gotham,” one of the stories contained in DC’s Lex and the City #1 anthology. Written by Brendan Hay with art by Stephen Byrne, the story finds Damian Wayne reluctantly asking Tim Drake for dating advice. While Damian is a skilled combatant, he has never planned a date before and wants to impress fellow vigilante Flatline. Tim agrees to help despite Damian’s faint praise that a geek like him having multiple girlfriends and a boyfriend suggests he has some secret tricks.

To that end, Tim sets up a mock dinner in a friend’s restaurant so Damian can practice small talk. He also arranges for Jason Todd to play a surly waiter to test Damian’s ability to keep his cool. All of this builds to the reveal of the first rule of dating in Gotham City.
DC Heroes plan their dates around villain attacks

Damian quickly recognizes the “Lady KGBeast” who storms the restaurant as Stephanie Brown in a different costume. Coincidentally, the real KGBeast shows up moments later, just as Damian questions whether planning for supervillains interrupting your date is truly necessary.

At least, they don’t occur as frequently as in superhero comics where heroes rarely enjoy a dinner date in peace. Thankfully, the DC’s Lex and the City #1 story ends with Robin and Flatline having a happy Valentine’s Day. It is not revealed, however, if the restaurant got robbed once again during their date.
DC’s Lex and the City #1 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
