House "Young Guns" bloc members Manila 1st district Rep. Ernix Dionisio and La Union 1st district Rep. Paolo Ortega are as busy as politicians come. But it still shouldn't surprise anyone that they give very sound advice on love.

That's because the work of a good public servant is very much like the work that a good partner must invest in a relationship.

In a press conference, the two congressmen took a break from the usual topics of Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment and the upcoming elections and shared how they can relate they job to love especially on the occasion of Valentine's Day.

"In terms of government, anong pwede nating gawin? (what can we do?) Yung dapat, balanced lang talaga (Everything should be balanced)," Dionisio said.

While politicians are busy individuals, they need "to make time"—just like in a relationship, he added.

"At the end of the day, the government is always here listening sa mga needs ng tao (to the needs of the people)," said Dionisio, who noted that listening was key to any relationship.

For his part, Ortega believed that actions speak louder than words.

"Yung gawa mo doon nila ibabase 'yung serbisyo o pagkatao mo. Dapat nakikita nila sa gawa (They will judge you based on your service and your character. They should see you based on your actions)," he said.

"Sa mga nanonood po siyempre iba naman yung salita ka lang ng salita mas maganda yung pinapakita mo talaga at binibigyan mo ng kabuhayan yung salita mo (For those who observe you, you should not only talk, you should act)," he added.

Ahead of Valentine's Day on Friday, Feb. 14, the Social Weather Stations (SWS) released results of a survey that showed only 46 percent were "very happy" with their relationship. This is 12 percentage points lower than the result in December 2023.

Reflecting on the survey results, Dionisio advised those who were single to simply wait for "the one".

"Minsan lahat ginawa mo na wala pa rin eh. At the end of the day, darating at darating naman yun yung happiness natin (Sometime, you've already done everything but nothing has still happened. But at the end of day, our happiness will come eventually)" he said.
