Professional Dating Coach Names 3 'worst Places' For A First Date

Professional dating coach Blaine Anderson has named the three "worst places" for a first date.
Dating in 2025 can be tough. There are seemingly unlimited options out there when it comes to online apps, while meeting someone in person feels harder than ever. If you are lucky enough to match with someone on a Hinge or Raya - or meet someone nice in person - coming up with a plan for the first date can be tricky, too.
You don't want it to be too casual and risk getting put in the friend zone. Of course, you don't want it to come across as too serious - and possibly desperate - as well.
So, what are the first date locations to really avoid? Anderson, a former travel industry worker turned professional dating coach, has come up with three first date locations to avoid.
Blaine Anderson created her own dating advice company.Blaine Anderson.
Anderson, who has more than 700,000 followers on social media - and appeared on ABC's "Shark Tank" - dished out her best first date advice on Instagram.
Here are the three "worst places" for a first date.
1. Expensive dinner
While planning a nice first dinner might seem like a good move, it can put too much pressure on the situation. And what if the date doesn't go well? Then, you're stuck sitting at a table together, trying to finish an expensive meal.
"This looks like you're trying too hard," Anderson says.
It's not worth it.
2. Going to the movies
Going to the movies might be a good third or fourth date, but when you're just getting to know someone, you don't want to be in a situation where you have to keep quiet.
"You can't talk or build a connection," Anderson says.
3. Anything you wouldn’t want to do anyway!
Anderson adds that you shouldn't do anything on a first date that you wouldn't want to be doing anyway. It should be a comfortable setting, ideally casual drinks or coffee, but a nice walk or outdoor activity can be good, too.
Anderson, who attended the University of Arizona, has been dishing out dating advice since she was in college.
