In the constantly evolving world of equestrian sport, prioritizing safety is crucial. Taking steps to improve the safety of both riders and horses not only protects participants but also fosters the growth of this community-driven sport that we all love. Recent years have seen significant advancements in safety standards and techniques.

Among these innovations, Landsafe Equestrian’s Rider Fall Safety System stands out with its comprehensive approach to reducing rider risk. Their nationwide multi-day clinics are designed to teach riders effective strategies for minimizing the impact of falls. By making it easy for riders to find and sign up for these opportunities through STRIDER’s user-friendly, open-access entry platform, Landsafe casts a wide net for a positive impact on the sport.

Team STRIDER caught up with Landsafe founders Danny and Keli Warrington at a recent clinic in Hume, VA to discuss some basics of their program.

“Safety is: right horse, right rider, right level. But sometimes, you’re going to have a fall, you’re going to impact the ground. So you need to be as educated as possible about everything- what helmet to wear, what air vest to wear, what level is appropriate for your horse. Landsafe is a key component of how to best reduce the rider risk,” explains Danny Warrington.

Through a combination of tumbling exercises, conditioning, and their proprietary fall simulator, Landsafe Equestrian’s comprehensive programming educates riders to better navigate fall scenarios with a goal of building confidence and muscle memory to reduce the impact of an interaction with the ground.

“When you have a fall, you need to have a plan, and we’re going to teach you what that plan is. We try to teach you the best practices of how to impact the ground,” Warrington continues.

And the Warringtons are uniquely qualified to do just that. Danny is a former leading steeplechase jockey turned international advanced three-day event rider, and Keli is an accomplished gymnast who was nationally ranked for over ten years and received the U100 certification in gymnastics. These skill sets have enabled the duo to develop comprehensive educational programming that helps riders across ages, disciplines, and skill levels to develop better fall responses.

Throughout the year, Landsafe Equestrian can be found across the United States as Danny and Keli travel to share their carefully developed curriculum. Expanding access to these tools and skills is vital for improving safety in eventing, and that’s where STRIDER’s user-friendly platform comes in. Riders can so easily search the calendar to find upcoming opportunities with Landsafe, then seamlessly provide payment while the Warringtons are able to focus on sharing their knowledge and skills with riders.

“Our students love using STRIDER- they do all of the hard work for you so it’s easy to just click and sign up for the next Landsafe clinic near you,” says Danny.

Beyond fostering community, educational programming like LandSafe Equestrian plays a crucial role in enhancing safety, skill development, and the overall growth of equestrian sports.
