The Common App Is Live!

The 2024-2025 Common App is LIVE and rising seniors, it’s time to dive in! Like the Coalition App, UC app, or UCAS, this online platform streamlines the application process for prospective college students. The Common App is the most popular of these platforms, offering students access to over 1,000 colleges and universities’ applications around the world. In fact, 1.4 million unique first-year applicants used the platform for the 2023-2024 year, up 7% from the previous year.

Some schools like Georgetown, MIT, University of Washington, and UT Austin continue to use their own application management tools, but don’t worry, we have resources for those too!

COMMON APP: WHAT’S CHANGED & WHAT’S STAYED THE SAME

Common App essay prompts will remain the same for 2024–2025, as “overall satisfaction with the prompts exceeded 95% across our constituent groups – students, counselors, advisors, teachers, and member colleges.”

This year, seniors will also be able to use the Common App to apply for City Year, a community service gap-year program. This is the first time Common App has offered a service organization on its application.

There have also been some aesthetic updates to the website, including a redesign of the college info pages to make them clearer. The application has also updated the “Personal Information” section with some reordering and an added question about whether the applicant has children. Another small tweak is changing the achievements section to include both “Honors and Honor Societies” as an option.

Common App’s “Direct Admissions” program continues to expand, with a goal of 140 colleges participating in this “proactive admissions process” which offers qualified first-generation, low- and middle-income students non-binding admissions offers before applying, based on their Common App responses.
