Snoop Dogg To Perform At The Game Awards 2024 After I Personally Manifested It
Some people spend Thanksgiving week with their family, making pies or whatever. I also did that actually. But I did something else very important as well, which was rewatching the 2004 Spike TV Video Game Awards in the form of a crappy YouTube upload that was missing about half of the show. I got to remember the 2000s-era misogynistic humor of the Spike VGAs, which were also produced by Game Awards producer Geoff Keighley, but far more importantly, I did enjoy seeing Snoop Dogg host the show that year. His undeniable charm as a host was one of the things about the old show that worked, and it’s something that the modern-day Game Awards should return to, if you ask me — having a celebrity host, that is.
I’m not going to get my exact wish in 2024, which would of course be Snoop Dogg returning to host the Game Awards. However, it does seem uncanny to me that after writing thousands of words about the man hosting a gaming awards show, he will be performing at The Game Awards as a musical guest this year.

It’s very impressive, actually, that even 20 years on, Snoop is still relevant to gamers. According to my coworker and Fortnite aficionado Ana Diaz, Snoop’s current heyday as a Fortnite character has resulted in a very fun season. Not that many musicians manage to stay this famous for this long across multiple axes of entertainment. And because I just watched him on 2004-era Spike TV, I’m also thinking about his gift for comic timing and hoping he does a comedy sketch as well. That probably won’t happen — the current-day Game Awards is far too staid and sedated for that — but I’m doing as much manifesting as I can over here, so you never know.
