[ca] Intimate Audio Recordings Used To Spread Personal Information To Family Members

I am a TX resident that was staying in CA recently. I stayed at a family members guest condominium (rented). Long story short, a camera in a locked room picked up audio recordings of me having sex with another single person staying in the home.

The situation was admittedly a bit hairy, I was staying in the home of my sister in laws family.. and the man I slept with was her cousin/uncle (10 yrs her senior) who is distantly related by step family.

I am 30 and he 38. He lives with my brother and SIL back in Texas. Although the situation was a bit close to home, I figured it may be a one off thing and obviously, I didn’t plan to share these personal details with others. (I had a conversation in the past with my Sil about her cousin- she did not tell me he was off limits, she said something to the effect of eh I don’t think he’s your type I wouldn’t).

I include all of the personal info as I am not trying to come off as completely innocent.

Long story short, my SILs father heard us having sex on the cameras/ they were tripped on to start recording with vibrations in the floor? He then took that information, confronted the man I slept with, then a few hours later called his daughter (my SIL) to tell her the news.

She then told my brother, who told my mother, who told her boyfriend as well as reached out to my father stating I needed an intervention, so I ended up talking with my dad and my step mother about it as well. Knowing that everyone in my family now knows about this personal sexual information about me is extremely unsettling- and having no choice or consent in the matter has been terrible. All of my family has judged and shamed me for this and I’m not sure how the damage can be repaired- both my embarrassment for the fact that they’ve now all imagined me in a sexually compromising situation and in the way they’ve all slut shamed me. (I’m talking full on adults who have slept with prostitutes, had threesomes, conceived children out of wedlock are all judging me even mentioning that me and the dude aren’t married).

Was it legal for the man who rents this condo to use information that he gathered without my consent via audio recording and spread said information to my family?

There was a camera in the downstairs living area, no green light, and when I asked my friend if it was recording, he said no not this one, the renter of the house said lots of these don’t work he needs to change the batteries. I wasn’t given a proper speech about cameras upon my arrival, was this legal?
