[ct] Apartment Management Is Temporarily Relocating Me To An Empty Unit - Do I Have Any Right To A Furnished Space (ie Hotel)
There has been a leak in my apartment for over a week due to an upstairs neighbor’s burst pipe. It’s an old building and somehow no one knows whether or not there is asbestos in the popcorn ceiling and they can’t repair until they find that out. They said that they’d move me to another unit, but these apartments are unfurnished. I won’t have a bed, couch, WiFi, or anything. I have no idea how long this will take, and I’m worried there might end up being mold as there has been water dripping for at least ten days now. I don’t have a way to move my bed, and the leak is directly over the front door, so it is going to be difficult to get much out. (I will have to cover suitcases with trash bags)
Do I have any rights to a furnished space, or is providing an empty apartment sufficient even though it’s not really livable?
I have renters insurance but there is a $500 deductible. I wasn’t going to make a claim for any belongings because only a few small things were ruined.
