(il) Brother’s Live In Ex Is An Animal Hoarder.

TL;DR they live together in the condo he bought, but her name is on the mortgage too despite having made no payments. He pays for everything, utilities groceries mortgage etc, including animal food for the 15 animals shes brought home. (10 cats, 3 large and 2 small dogs) They broke up a few weeks ago and he wants to clean up and sell the place but she won’t get rid of any of the animals so he can start the process. Shes an alcoholic and bipolar but (I want to believe) not a bad person, just sick.

My question is: legally, how can I help him remove these animals? Many if not all are adopted under her name. I worry she could sue or otherwise legally retaliate against him if we remove them when she’s at work. Would she have grounds to do so? Her parents’ house (where she’s moving back to at some point, in theory) won’t accommodate all these animals and he can’t sell the condo until they’re rehomed.

He and the animals are in this unfair fucked up limbo where theyre broken up, living like roommates in a place she doesn’t pay for and hes surrounded by stressed, poorly cared for animals. They’re better off at a shelter than they are at that condo, and he agrees.
