(texas) Man Had A Seizure And Ran His Car Into Our Apartment

On the 14th a man had a seizure while driving and ran into my apartment destroying our home office with computers, monitors and many other tools and hobby items. No injuries to myself, my partner or our pets.

It shot one of the desks through the adjacent wall into our daughter’s room destroying several things of hers as well. We had just built two gaming PCs in June and along with them new monitors and desks over the course of a few months.

We have renters insurance through USAA who are helping as we gather info but I am being told that I need to look for more advice, a lawyer, call his insurance and demand reimbursement and more.

I have never had anything like this happen before much less had to make a claim so I have no clue how to proceed, what to do, what to watch out for etc.

All three of us are disabled and on disability, this room was where we had most of our hobbies, games and connection to the outside world.

The management of the apartment put us in a hotel for a couple days until they were able to move us temporarily into another apartment until the original one can be repaired. This has created an entirely new set of problems as the temp apartment is upstairs and neither of us can physically handle stairs long term much less move everything we own from the original apartment to the temp apartment and then back when the repairs are complete. The estimate for movers to move everything just one way, not both, is $6000.

On top of all that after notifying SSA about what is going on they told me they cannot guarantee that my benefits will not be reduced or stopped.

We are scared, tired and unable to do anything hardly. We can’t get the internet working for several days because they can’t get a signal in, there are roaches and the exterminator can’t come out until next week, we can’t cook because we lost all our food and don’t want our appliances filled with roaches. We are so stressed and scared we haven’t even been able to have sex.

This has been a nightmare, but we are alive. Any help would be greatly appreciated
