[usa] Am I Committing A Hipaa Violation When My Client Is A Family Member?
ive been taking care of my mom for a really long time. and recently through a government program my mom was able to "hire" and pay me me to be her caregiver through some company so im fully considered a home health worker, get a W-2 and everything. when I started a few i did go through a general HIPAA compliance thing, but now i realize im kinda in murky waters.
how much am I allowed to talk about my mom?? am i violating HIPAA when I talk or vent to my friends about some of the hard or sad parts of her condition or when i cant go to something because she has an appointment or surgery and i let them know that? am I violating HIPAA when I talk to my therapist about her, her condition or how it affects me?
she's my mom, i love her and i love sharing things about her (the regular everyday things) because she's awesome, but she's also my client, so am i not allowed to talk about her anymore? can't even tell people her name anymore because that's personal information since shes now a client before shes my mom? i also fully put this work on my resume so now i have no clue where to go from here
