(virginia) Canceling A Facebook Marketplace Deal And Keeping The Down Payment
Hey all, I agreed to sell my car on Facebook marketplace to someone for 5000$ over a year ago. The person was multiple states away and offered a 500$ downpayment for me to hold it while he figured out how to get it. A few months of silence pass and he offers to send another 500$ for continuing to hold it. More months pass of him occasionally reaching out saying he will get it eventually. It came around to November this year where I reached out and said if he can not get it by the end of the year I was unfortunately going to have to find another buyer due to it taking up space in my shop. However If he wanted to pay the full price now we will hold onto it for as long as he would like. A few days later he responded with he will have everything squared away before the end of the year, and it is now the end of the year. The 1000$ has been spent because life happens and I needed the money hence why I was selling it and it seemed like the money wasn’t a concern because he didn’t offer to buy it when I said our deal would be off. Can I get in any legal issues for doing this?
