A Towing Company Just Obtained A Lien Against My Car Without It Ever Being Towed

(Virginia) I’m at a loss as to what to do. My car has current inspection and registration and has been parked on-site in my apartment complex’s clearly designated spaces with its current parking permit displayed.

Today I got a letter from the DMV informing me that a towing company just obtained a lien against my vehicle. Tried calling the tow company “oh you’ll have to call back when a manager is here”. My car has been at the apartment complex this entire time! I’ve never received any correspondence from this towing company!

I’m dumbfounded as to how they could take a lien out on my car and what a lien even means for me as far as credit, resale, etc.

What do I do?
