Another Hoa Trying To Rip Off An Already Struggling Family

Card image cap

I’m a full-time working mom to a 2 year old. Husband lost his job a few months ago and we’ve been scraping by on my low salary and some savings.

Out of the blue we learn through a letter from a courthouse that some random company is suing for $5000.

Turns out, it’s somewhat legit in that they’re a company who works with our HOA according to what my husband says (he spoke to a neighbor who said it’s legit). Apparently it’s a part of the paperwork and we basically have TWO HOAs charging hundreds a month for not much service.

Funny thing is, we never received any letter from this random company, can’t even pay on their website because we don’t know our account number because we never received any communication from them.

The question is: what are their rights here? I’m sure it will be hard to say without the details of the agreements, but my husband did the paperwork so I’m not sure. Wanted to try JustAnswer but read that it’s a scam.

And advice is helpful. Thank you.
