Are My In Laws Jeopardizing Us

Card image cap

My wife is from mexico and has been a permanent resident for almost three years. About two years ago her parents moved to the states via her dad getting a TN work visa.

The problems began when their employer gave them a wage way smaller than what he had initially promised and that's on the visa application. So, my father in law works with him a few months of the year to maintain his visa status, along with my mother in law working for that same employer illegally. Most of the year, they both work other jobs illegally that pay more wages in cash.

Since my wife is coming up on being eligible to apply for citizenship, my in laws are starting to say that they aren't going to renew their TN visa at the end of this year and they will just overstay their visa and wait it out here until my wife can solicit their residency.

Will my in laws working illegally affect my wife's chances of getting her citizenship? Will them overstaying their visa affect her eligibility?

I am about two years out from going into the military as an officer and I am also afraid that my in laws being/working in the country illegally will affect my chances of getting a government job.
