Are Names And Likenesses Of Historic Aircraft Copyrighted? (arizona)

Card image cap

I'm developing a WWII board game and feature historic aircraft like the Lockheed P-38 Lightning. There's a game piece with an illustration of the aircraft. Do I need permission from Lockheed to use the name of the P-38 and likeness of the aircraft in a game? This is an indie game, so I doubt I have the resources to purse "Official Licensed Product" with half a different manufacturers. Would any legal claims have expired with age?

Another game in the works uses modern aircraft like the Boeing F-15 Eagle which is still in production. Like the other game, there is original artwork with a realistic depiction of the aircraft. Some aircraft are from foreign nations, such as Sukhoi from Russia. Do I need to contact all these manufacturers and get permission or licensing?
