Assaulted And Then Ran Off The Road. I Received A Point On My Record For It.

Hey reddit, i’m located in california. In early august 2024 i bought a car off of facebook marketplace. 2001 hyundai accent. i had the car until late september. in late September, i was driving around with friends, and they needed to use the restroom. we stopped at the nearest store, which was a walmart. my friends got out, and it was just me and my gf in the car. While waiting for them, a car with a driver nobody had ever seen before, pulled up on us and hit me in the eye due to the window being down. i immediately pulled off, and got my friends in the car. the dude who hit me, got back into his car, and started to chase me, and we reached speeds of 85mph on backroads in heavy traffic, while on the phone with 911. the guy chasing went to hit my car, and i hit the brakes and swerved, lost control, cut across traffic, and everyone lost consciousness. we all got out thru the windows (thank god they were down) and police, and ems came. they took all of us to the hospital, and that’s where it ended til the next day. i heard from chp over the phone where they filled out a crash report and then it was over from there, in there hands. about a week ago i got a copy of my dmv driving record, and i have a point for that car accident. due to this, i cannot be a driver for my company due to that point which had costed me a raise. is there any steps i can take to appeal this point?
