Automotive Shop Did Awful Work, Can’t Find An Attorney To Help

Card image cap

I had an automotive shop in Michigan (I am from Missouri) do a lot of work on my car that is used for racing. Totaling to $41k. The original estimate was $22k, they took over a year to do the work, didn’t do half of the items on the original quote, put several non descriptive items on the invoices such as “general assembly” for $8000 and wouldn’t tell me what they did during they general assembly. They pressured me into paying invoices after going over the original amount by saying they would stop working on the car and not finish it. My car also got backed into by a delivery truck at their shop and repairs done not too well. When I got the car delivered back to me and looked it over, there were several things done very poorly on the car, the car would not start and run despite them saying they drove it onto the trailer, and overall the car was a complete mess. I told the shop owner I was not happy with the outcome of the car, he asked me to email him a list of things I was not happy with, so I made a very long detailed email of all the issues with pictures and wanted them to fix things or refund me some of the cost. The owners only resolution that he would do was “We walk away mutually dissatisfied and never speak to each other or of each other again.” I told him that was unacceptable and ridiculous. I left them a bad review for them and then got threat from him that he was going to pursue charges of fraud and slander just for a bad review and said his attorney was going to contact me soon, has been a few months and I have heard absolutely nothing, they have nothing on me. My bad reviews was just this is the kind of work and customer service you get when you spend $41k with them and just a bunch of pictures and screenshots.

I have contacted multiple attorneys in Michigan and have not found anyone willing to take on this kind of case. I made a BBB complaint, and BBB could not get ahold of them or a response so they couldn’t do anything. I also made a complaint with Michigan Department of State, but they also said they couldn’t do anything because “Repair Facilities whose business purpose is to operate on race cars and other vehicles that do not require on road registration are not required to be licensed in the State of Michigan under MCL - Section 257.1304. The Michigan Department of State does not have jurisdiction over facilities that are not required to be licensed to operate. It is recommended you contact an attorney for further assistance.”

Any advice on how to find an attorney that can help or other measures I should take?
