Being Sued For $5,000 Of Credit Card Debt, Currently Unemployed

Card image cap

Hello everyone. So, I received a letter in the mail regarding a Visa card that I owe $5,000 on. I had paid on it all the way up until this past August, when I could no longer afford the monthly payment amount. I just graduated with my bachelors degree in December, and have been searching for work.

I have paid only what I could from what I had saved over the last few months, so at this point, I have covered the monthly payment for August. I am being sued by the original credit card company. I have been told no matter what to show up to the court date, so that is my plan. However, I have no idea what to do, what paperwork to bring, etc. I know the debt is mine. I’m planning on hopefully having full time employment soon, and have every intention of paying it off. I just have no clue what the best course of action here is. I appreciate any insight. Thank you.
