Bought An “as Is” Car That’s Had Nothing But Problems.
So about 2 weeks ago I bought a 2008 Mustang GT with 112k miles as is from a small dealer where I live in NC. I drove the vehicle on 2 separate occasions before buying it and noticed absolutely nothing wrong at all, however 45 minutes after purchasing the car when I got home the engine skipped timing and started making a horrible grinding and shaking noise that continued for multiple days and even threw a CEL that was identified as a cam timing issue. After a $2500 quote at my local mechanic I contacted the dealer I bought the car from less a week prior and they agreed to take it and fix it for me free of charge. About a week later I picked the car up and instantly noticed a loud ticking noise upon acceleration consistent with the rpms of the engine coupled with a noticeable burnt smell around the car and in the cabin plus a few other small things that aren’t right about it. The mechanic who worked on the car supposedly replaced a bunch of engine components associated with the issue I’m having BEFORE I even bought the car then when It began to have problems they fixed one and caused 2 more. The dealer has been nothing but helpful and nice to me so far but I don’t know if they are going to be willing to fix this next issue for me. I’m wondering if I have any legal protection if in the case that the dealer refuse to fix any more issues caused by their mechanic.
