Can A Google Review Of A Memory Care Facility That Knowingly Neglected My Dad Get Me In Legal Trouble?
My dad had early onset alzheimer's disease and lived in a memory care facility for 23 days before his death. The director of memory care told me that she would increase his care level so he would be checked on every 2 hours. Two weeks later, I found out that the care plan was never updated so overnight/evening/weekend staff were unaware to be checking on him more frequently. I had several conversations withe the Memory Care Director where she told me that my dad's care level had been increased. My dad would have died anyway, but knowing he was a vulnerable adult who suffered additional confusion and distress in his final weeks leaves me feeling such anger and guilt.
I had a meeting with the executive director of the facility a couple weeks after my dad died and shared all of the details with her. A week later she contacted me to let me know that my family would not be billed for any nursing care during my dad's 23 days there, we would only be billed for rent. That's a pretty big admission of guilt if you ask me!
I would like to warn others about this place by leaving reviews on google and yelp sharing my experience. Could the facility sue me for leaving these reviews?
(The facility is located in Minnesota. It is owned by the second largest senior living corporation which is located in Iowa and owns 100+ facilities in 30+ states.)
