Can A Landlord Kick A Tenant Out To Shelter A Family Member Who Lost Their Home In The Fire?
Just like the title says. A friend of mine (G) has a verbal agreement with a family friend to pay $200 a week for the guest house on a property for a period of two months. The landlords parents lost their home in the palisades fires and so G’s mother told the landlords(unbeknownst to G) that if they needed the guest house, G could find a place to stay for a few days. So the landlords just gave her a 48 hour eviction notice. Is this legal? She doesn’t have any other living arrangements and might end up in her car. The family she’s staying with is not struggling financially by any means, and while I understand this is a hard time, they’re directly making someone else’s life a lot harder by trying to help their family. We are in California if you couldn’t tell already.
