Can A Sub Contractor Put A Lien On My House?
Recently had kitchen remodel done with a contractor. I was quoted an amount and accepted. Paid 50% down to begin job. Before he even began work he requested additional funds (red flag). I agreed (stupid) paid with guarantee job was starting next day. Assured and work commenced everything was fine. At the conclusion of job I paid the balance due in contract though I did have an issue with a portion of floor. Contractor immediately launches into I owe him more money because job cost more and he’s going sue me. At no time in the process of job before during or after did he mention additional cost. This only came up after pointing out the one issue. There has been no further communication with contractor about owing more. Today one of his subcontractors dropped by threatening to put a lien on my house because he was not paid. He’s going to come in and take my cabinets. I paid 100% of the contract I made with contractor. Can his subcontractor and/or suppliers come at me for his non payment to them. Can contractor sue me for additional on this job? What is the best way to respond to these threats?
