Can I File My Custody In Ca

Hello I have a question that I don't want a biased opinion on so i wanted to ask here before I talked to my lawyer

Super long story short my ex wife stabbed me in the neck 14 times while I was asleep we got divorced in ky and I have our 3 yo daughter when we got divorced I stated that I wanted to wait until her incarceration was over to address permanent custody with our daughter as they granted me temporary....

because I had zero way to support out there in Ky with her in jail I moved home to California so that I would have family support for my daughter now less than 2 yrs later (????????????????) Ex wife is out she hasn't tried to contact me....yet so I don't know alot of the details.

my question is do I have to file for the custody in ky with my divorce lawyer I know that would be the easiest option but my daughters custodial state is now california as we have been here since May of 2023 and I belive the laws out here are better for me

Can I just get another lawyer out here in california and file that way ideally I would just do this myself as custody will be easier to do than the divorce was any advice is greatly appreciated or any ideas for resources
