Can I Sue My Dad For Putting A Mortgage In My Name?

Card image cap

Today I went to the car dealership to trade my car in and get a new one that’s better and newer, I was denied getting a loan due to the fact that I apparently have a mortgage in my name.

I am 20, the guy at the dealership mentioned that the mortgage was opened and signed “by me” in December of 2022, I would’ve been 17, and a senior in high school during this time. This is also around the time that my father stole my identity and tried to steal my stimulus check. I am thinking that he signed his mortgage and put it on me. This would track because he lost the house due to not being able to pay for anything, and the house ultimately got repossessed by the bank due to the lack of payments.

I am awaiting paperwork to confirm this, and they should arrive in the mail by the end of the week. Is it possible to sue my dad for identity theft, or something else? If this is real then it would be on all my banking statements from here on out, and I won’t be able to do anything. I’ve been wondering why it was so hard to get student loans but this might explain some of it too.

Anyway, is there any advice I can have on how to sue, or what to sue for?
