Can I Sue My Mother's Cpa? My Mother Passed Away From Suicide Due To Massive Financial Debt

Hello everyone,

I am writing this from a throwaway account for privacy reasons. Edit: This is for the state of Maryland

I am grieving incredibly but also extremely extremely angry right now. My mother passed away from suicide after going into around 700k in debt and I recently figured out she had a CPA who she was billing at least 744 dollars a month (could be a lot more, these are just the accounts we have access to). The CPA is also STILL taking payments from the accounts. I found after researching online that 744 dollars a month is incredibly pricy for the poor service the CPA was doing for my mother.

For more information, the CPA was the accountant for all of my mother's personal and business accounts and had access to log into all of them. My mother had multiple IRS tax penalties which accumulated to almost 60k in total due both the IRS and her state taxes. In addition, 0 estimated quarterly payments were made for her personal taxes which she owed from owning an S corporation business. She was also suggested ridiculous things like paying down low interest debt first instead of paying off her 100k credit card debt which had 27-30% interest and the CPA had full knowledge of the credit card debt.

To put into some context why she hired this CPA, my mother was not very good at english. She only hired that CPA because they were both proficient in the same language and it seems like the CPA abused that in order to get well paid for extremely poor tax and personal+business accounting services.

Do I have grounds to sue the CPA and if so, are there any recommendations on who I can hire?
