Car Stolen Then Donated By My Ex Husband

so back in 2022 i was granted a divorce in texas. my car was assigned to me in the divorce decree. a few months later i moved out of state so i sold the car to my ex husband for $6k. he borrowed the money from a friend so he never paid out of his own pocket. i filled out the title transfer paperwork and left it with him to sign and submit and pay the sales tax.

now in 2025 i am finding out through receiving a toll bill that he never submitted the title transfer. he has just informed me that he gave the car away to a stranger a few weeks ago and he doesn’t have their name or contact info.

i have no idea what to do from here. should i report this car stolen since it’s no longer in his possession? should i request a certified copy of the title and still try to transfer it over to his name? i just want the title out of my name because i don’t even know where the car is.
