Car Was Stolen... Building Manager Is Not Releasing Footage
My car was stolen last night from in front of a building across from my apartment complex. There is a camera located right in front of where my car was parked. I have an approximate time of when the car was stolen. I parked around 9:30 PM. By 1AM, the car was gone.
I thought it was towed for being to close to a fire hydrant so I waited until the morning and called the parking authority to see where it was, but they notified me that they had no record of the vehicle ever being towed by them. Now I'm starting to panic.
I called the police and it took about an hour for someone to come out and take my report. I went across the street to the business located inside the building and they said the cameras didn't belong to them, but they could give me the name of company who managed the building.
I reach out and someone responds that I'll need a police report number and to pay a $75 fee for the footage. Then they say we cannot guarantee we have the footage you need.
So now I'm confused. Am I paying to get the footage? Am I paying to have someone look for the footage? This happened less than 24 hours ago. I can't imagine the footage would be overwritten so quickly.
I've provided the police report number but no one has since responded. Do I have any legal recourse? Could I ask the police to subpoena the footage? Can I sue them for the footage?? I'm lost in the sauce and I REALLY need my car...
