Car Wash Obliterated Entire Right Side Of Car

Card image cap

I went to an automated car wash tonight, and a ratchet strap with an attached snap hook got twisted into the spinning drying machine and completely obliterated the entire right side of my car. For reference, it looks like bullet holes have littered the entire right side, even cracking my tail light.

The car wash filed a claim for me, and I was also advised to call the police to file a police report. We also documented all the damage and the ratchet strap tangled in the drying machine.

Here’s where it gets tricky: we discovered that the strap belonged to the truck immediately in front of me in the car wash. It appears the drying machine got tangled with it somehow, wrapping it around and around as it spun, and then damaged my car as it went through 10 seconds later.

The car wash GM is reaching out to me either tomorrow or Jan 2nd (since it’s a holiday tomorrow), but I’m just bewildered by this entire situation and don’t know who’s fault this is now. Should l go ahead and file a claim with my insurance or wait for a verdict from the car wash? Could they say it was the truck owner’s fault and deny responsibility? I also wanted to add that the car wash is a reputable establishment and were super helpful during this situation and said they have insurance for things like this, but I’m still at a loss.
