Child Support For A Foreigner
Asking for a friend. My Wife's close friend is from the Philippines. She now lives and works in the US (cruise ship). 8 Years ago she met a guy from Reno they fell in love and got decided to get married. The guy married her in the Philippines. She got pregnant during this time he was there and when she found out he returned to Nevada. For years he claimed to still want to be with her and wanted to provide for the child. She's now realized that he has no intentions of doing either. He has a new life, family in Reno. Owns his own business ect ect.
He refuses to send regular child support. In total he has sent around 800 for the total of the child's life. Because she is here on a work visa (legal), what routes does she have to file for child support? Is it as simple as providing the required paperwork and the ball starts rolling? Should she hire an attorney? Thanks much in advance for any help!
