Cleaner Sueing With False Story
I bought a new house in California earlier this year and hired some cleaners to clean the place before moving in. When they got here, we asked them to take off their shoes because we don't like having outdoor shoes inside the house, and they obliged without any push back. While they were cleaning, we were helping out and hopped on the kitchen counter to clean the blinds, at which point one of the hired cleaners also hopped on the counter to clean the blinds and told us to let them to do it. The cleaner then slipped off the counter and I believe they sprained their wrists.
Now the cleaners are sueing us for medical payments and wage loss. Their complaint states that they pleaded with us to keep their shoes on because it was a danger hazard (which is not true, they did not plead anything or mention anything about it being dangerous) and that she was on the kitchen counter because we instructed them to do so to clean the blinds (also not true, we were going to clean it ourselves but the cleaner went on the counter on their own accord and told us to let them clean it).
Given their twisted version of the story, it does show negligence on our part, but the true story IMO doesn't show any negligence on our part. I'm working on getting a lawyer, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this is a valid claim or not and see if there is any advice on the best next steps
