Community Bank Misusing Power To Inflate Account Openings

Wisconsin resident, I recently started a position at a local bank. Back in August, hen going to set up my direct deposit etc they state they only allow direct deposit to an employee (meaning their own bank) checking's/savings account. The other option is to use a cash card that advertises receiving the money upto 2-3 days earlier.

I said I would like a paper check in order to deposit into my bank account. This was an option and while it be annoying beats switching a bank I have had for my adult life. Direct deposit with my preferred banking app. Easy peasy.

Fast forward to November, they state they are eliminating paper payroll checks and I will have to set up an employee bank account through our company to receive my pay. Or to use the alternative cash card to receive my payroll check. After a back and fourth with the HR department. I was given a statement of "Wisconsin is an at will employer, and at any time you can leave (our local bank) to pursue careers elsewhere." When I brought it up to my direct superior, they stated.

Boss:"Is this something you are willing to lose your job over."

OP: "What inside of HR prohibits them from using my external account and routing number for the direct deposit."

Boss: "Nothing this is the way the CEO ensures money stays in the bank, its just how it is here."

I feel like they force employees to this account and have never had pushback but I feel like if you audited the company as a whole, there would be a list of stuff like this they are doing illegally.

SO TLDR; Bank forces employees to set up an employee bank account and sells it as the only way to receive direct deposits from payroll, When in fact its to show more account opens because the bank industry is a revolving door, and to "keep" the money in house. Is this something they can get sued for? There is more but this seems like something that if isn't illegal should be. Thank you in advance.
