Credit Card Retaliatory Close By Bank (tx)
Hi everybody, I’m wondering what should I do because one of my credit cards was recently suddenly closed by the bank and it’s going to affect my credit score.
A few months ago I had my wallet and phone stolen and I reported the credit cards as stolen and some had fraudulent charges on them. I field a police report and provided it to the banks. The other credit cards assured me I was not liable for unauthorized transactions and it was a breeze to get a new card and get rid of the fraud transactions.
However this particular bank in question kept reposting those transactions to my account, 3 times I kept calling and talking to different agents that they all assured me it was going to get taken care of. Once i had enough I made a complaint with the BBB, I heard back and the replied that a “processing error” had occurred and that they were resolving the disputes in my favor and that they regret the frustration caused. I was happy with the response and closed the complaint, and the charges finally fell from my account.
Within a week I get an email saying that my account was closed due to violating the consumer agreement. I called them and the manager couldn’t really give any information other than there was first party fraud? I explained the situation again and they couldnt help me, said there’s no appeal process. I told of course there was fraud however my card was stolen at the time. And I didnt had to jump through hoops with the other banks and I got tired and I reached out to the BBB and then they say it was their fault, they were fixing it, then close my account?
It feels retaliatory, I told her now I dont have this card anymore and my score will take a hit, and according to the fair credit laws, and their website I’m not liable for fraud, and because they never fixed my issue I reached out the the BBB and in retaliation they closed my account?
I was wondering if I should make a new complaint with the BBB or reach out to the CFPB.
