Crematory Loses Family Ashes
This was posted in r/advice but was recommended to post here as well. I am posting on behalf of a friend due to how heartbroken he is. He is unsure what to do. His mom was in hospice for months, he thought he was prepared for her death. It came quicker than anticipated. He returned to work just a day after she passed away and was sent home to spend time with his family. He shared that after being sent home it all hit him at once and he couldn't take her loss and was not prepared for it the way he thought he was. He had her cremated per her wishes and was planning on picking them up today to drive them to California to spread at her favorite spot. Before he picked up her ashes the crematory called stating they had placed her ashes in the transport van. The van was then stolen so they do not know there whereabouts of her ashes at this time. He is devastated by this as he had a road trip planned with her ashes and to make some stops at her favorite places on the way to California. What options does he have at this point? While the vehicle was stolen I feel like the crematory should have done a better job with securing something so invaluable to someone, i.e don't put it in the van until its being transported or have the van in a secure place like a garage or locked fence. Any thoughts would be much appreciated here
