Dad Didn’t Leave A Will And I Don’t Think He Left Much Behind. Do I Need A Lawyer For Probate?
My dad died a couple years ago and never left a will. I don’t know for sure how much money he left behind but i highly doubt it was much (likely under $10k but idk they won’t disclose any information) and he was not a homeowner. He and my mom are divorced so it’s just me and my younger sister who are the next of kin, and nobody from my extended family have protested about that.
I’m wondering how necessary a lawyer would be for the probate? I don’t have much money, and it’s looking like any money left behind by my father would end up just getting used up completely to pay a lawyer, making the whole process kind of not worth it.
I know usually this is all very complex and that’s why a lawyer is recommended, but because of the fact that there’s no will and very little assets would it still be all that complicated to do myself? And does anyone have any experience with something called “pauper’s affidavit” and what that process might look like?
