Death Threat Against Child

Hello everyone, just looking for some advice.

Today my girlfriends daughter (9 years old) was handed a note from a boy at her school. I'm not sure of all of the exact details of the note yet but it was a death threat. He threatened to kill her in this note, just over a month ago another boy had punched her in the face.

Discussing this with my girlfriend the school does not seem to be taking these things seriously.

They told her the teacher would reach out to her tomorrow, the teacher had to go home today because her child was sick. I feel as if the principal should be contacting my girlfriend as well as the teacher.

The current plan is to talk to her daughter tonight and talk to the school tomorrow. We want to get all the details before we make our decision.

I am also pushing my girlfriend to file a police report at the minimum, and if the school isnt willing to do a threat assessment I believe we should also file for a restraining order.

What advice would you give? Is there anything I may be forgetting ? Should I consult with an attorney ? If so what kind of attorney is best to consult ?

Am I overreacting ? I just see all of these school shootings from children under the age of 10 etc. I am worried about blow back from the other student as well as possible blow back from the school for getting the police involved.

I just want my girlfriends daughter to be safe, with the way the world currently is and all of the school shootings etc I think it's better to be safe then sorry.
