Do I Have To Pay All My Alimony On The Exact Day?

Card image cap

Long story short, I have alimony due on the 5th of each month and I’ve been paying 1/2 on the 16th and 1/2 on the 1st so that the total is fully paid by the 5th…the due date. Her lawyer filed to hold me in contempt for not paying the whole amount ON the 5th. I asked wtaf, as I am not remiss in payment and she is getting her money direct deposit. Well, I can’t schedule an electronic payment ahead of time and I really like this to be hands off and I can’t schedule a check…so I have to manually pay it via Zelle…it’s the only option.

Now her lawyer is saying that if I pay him $2k then I can pay in 2 equal payments otherwise it has to be paid ON the 5th.

First, make it make sense.

Second, can they actually hold me in contempt for paying the alimony by the due date instead of on it? This is just a money grab yeah?

Edit: state is PA, decree states paid electronically on the 5th.
