Does A “do Not Enter” Sign At The Top Of My Driveway Reduce My Liability For Icy Conditions

Card image cap

I have a home with a long driveway. Yesterday my husband cleaned the snow but then it rained overnight along with a little more snow, temperature dropped and was icy this morning. A friend who spent the night popped his tire as he was leaving. This got me thinking about what to do in situations like this. We live at the end of a cul de sac so we only get vehicles and foot traffic that are intended for my address. I don’t have a city sidewalk next to my house where people need to walk.

I plan on getting a “do not enter” sign to leave at the front of my driveway for situations like this when conditions are too dangerous for delivery drivers or a random lost person or door to door sales people. I don’t want to add a “caution, icy conditions” because I read that that is acknowledging that I know the condition exists.

Does the “do not enter” sign limit my liability if someone ignores it and run into trouble?
