Does Abandoned Property Ever Become "mine"?

Card image cap

I'm in Florida. Hope not to have to share specific municipality but could if necessary.

Close to 2 months ago somebody parked a car on the side of my property and apparently abandoned it. I'd like to know if I eventually do or could obtain ownership rights of the vehicle if it was in fact abandoned.

It must have been left there in the middle of the night, because I just found it sitting there one morning when I left for work. It took me 2 or 3 weeks to get around to calling anyone about it as I figured maybe someone just needed money for a tow and they would be back for it. Around November 22nd I called the local police to report it thinking perhaps it had been stolen And subsequently abandoned. They responded by putting an orange sticker on the windshield. I think usually stickered vehicles on the highway get impounded within 12 hours, but it has been there for about 5 weeks still.

I live on a corner lot and it is positioned outside my side fence partially on my property partially on the sidewalk. So maybe arguably it wasn't fully abandoned on my property. Let me know if that matters.

The car is an old beater. A Saturn Ion I think. I have no idea if it would even run and my only intention would be to donate it to my local public radio station. I had hoped the police or code enforcement would have towed it away by now, but it seems like they're not going to. I hope I'm not going to get stuck with the cost of removing an abandoned vehicle. If so, I would hope I would then get a say in its disposition or could claim the property as my own. I do know that to ever sell or register the vehicle to drive. It would have to have a clean title, and I don't want that headache.

FWIW I have not laid a finger on it since it showed up.
