Driving Intersection Crash
Hello!
My girlfriend got into a minor accident a few months ago (we live in Pennsylvania). She was driving straight through an intersection with a solid green light. A few cars directly across coming the opposite direction that were making left turns turned as she was approaching, and the last car tried to squeeze through as well and this resulted in an accident. The other driver had a dashcam, and the insurance is now saying she is at fault. It was confirmed that my girlfriend was not speeding, and that she had the green light.
They are telling her that even though she had the green light and that she was going straight, it was her responsibility to yield to this other car turning left and that she should have applied the brakes to let him through. She indeed slammed on her brakes as it was last second and could not stop in time.
Is there any way that their justification for her being at fault could be true? I just don't understand how a car that last second turns left in front of an oncoming car going straight could possibly result in that car being at fault.
Are there any specific driving laws in PA that we could reference regarding right of way at intersections?
