Employer Wants To Charge Me $5 Per Emailed Pay Stub

Is this allowed? Some context. I’m in South Carolina. The company I work for part time has given me paper pay stubs all year. After depositing the checks I got rid of them. I’m aware that that was my bad and going forward I won’t, but every other job I’ve had has offered online portals so I incorrectly assumed they did too. Fast forward to now, my W2 came and it states that I only paid 29 dollars in federal taxes all year. I’m pretty sure that my pay stubs reflected more than that each pay period. I emailed my boss and asked if it was possible to get a few of my pay stubs emailed to me. Simply so that I could look and add up the taxes, just to see if it really was over the 29 dollars or if I was wrong. Just for the peace of mind before I owe hundreds this tax season. I’m assuming he received my email because the next morning my GM made a post stating that all looked up, emailed, or printed pay stubs would be 5 dollars each. My question is, can they do that? Or do they have to provide me the documents when requested since I need them for taxes? I’m not even asking for physical copies, literally just an email.
