Ex Boyfriend Broke My Finger —released On Bail Today. Strong Evidence, Should I Get A Lawyer?
Location: Atlanta, GA, USA.
Hello everyone. Just seeking general advice on how I should navigate this situation. On October 16th of 2024, said individual and I hung out at my house then we proceeded to walk out towards our cars. We were both headed to the store. I was carrying my 6 year old daughter while we were walking out to our cars. We had a minor argument inside but it wasn’t anything heated however he did seem to be visibly upset. At this time, we were only friends. Our relationship ended a month prior. Stupid, I know. So as I proceed to my car, I put my daughter in the backseat. I then go to try to start my car and it wouldn’t start. No problem, my car has been giving me battery troubles anyway. I grab my cables which were at the front passenger side of my car, and proceed to get out the car to jump it. Before I could, my ex boyfriend approached me asking me if my car isn’t turning on? And then demanding the jumping cables which was a total shock to me not sure why he would request that. I said, why? And then in the blink of an eye he rushed towards me forcibly attempting to take the cables (and my car keys) out of my hand. There was a struggle between us. I do remember him twisting and turning to get the cables out of my hands. After he successfully got the cables (and keys) out of my hands, he then pushed me aggressively on the concrete floor which all resulted in extreme pain in one of my fingers. This finger swelled up, turned purple, bled, felt hot to the touch. I had artificial nails on at the time which almost of them broke off during this incident. My 6 year old was a witness as she was looking out the window.
So the evidence against him which was all submitted to the police is—
Video evidence of him attacking me, medical documentation showing proof of substantial physical injury (X-ray and docs submitted), video evidence of him returning my car keys to me the following morning leaving it at my door step.
He has been charged with—
Robbery by sudden snatching, aggravated battery, cruelty to children 3rd degree. Police want to interview my daughter as a witness to this crime. He has already had a prior battery record against his brother that he got dropped, he was never convicted as his brother didn’t want to pursue any further legal action.
My question is.. how likely is it that there will be justice for me? His bond was set at $45,000. He bonded out yesterday. I’m now awaiting the next steps which would be court. Also, should I get a lawyer despite the strong evidence against him?
